6th Annual New Jersey Kayak Fishing Fluke Tournament 2013 - Hosted by Point Pleasant Elks and Jersey Paddler

Date: Friday July 26, 2013 (5:00am - 7:00pm) and Saturday, July 27, 2013 (5:00am to 3:30pm)

This is considered to be a family oriented tournament. Over the past 16 years, this tournament has received outstanding recognition from anglers throughout the Tri-State area being called the #1 single port Fluke Tournament on the East Coast.

Entries have been coming in at a record pace, and the committee hopes to have another successful Tournament followed by a fun-filled All You Can Eat Awards Picnic on the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge grounds for the anglers and their families. This event is geared both for the serious kayak angler and the kayak angler who wants to learn more about this fast growing and exciting sport of kayak fishing. This tournament has become the premiere kayak fishing fluke tournament on the East Coast with more anglers and sponsors each year, thanks for your support!


WHEN: Friday July 26, 2013 (5:00am - 7:00pm) and Saturday, July 27, 2013 (5:00am to 2:00 pm)

Catch Photo Submission Time EXTENDED - 2:00PM – 4:00PM Saturday July 27, 2013

WHERE: Anglers can fish an approx 25 mile radius around the Point Pleasant Elks, 820 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742 (732) 892-9843. The northern boundary of the tournament is all of Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook. The southern boundary for the tournament is the RT37 Bridge going into Seaside Heights. This also is the approx area around the bridge. Anglers still need to make it back to the Elks Lodge for the "Catch Photo Submission Time" which has been extended this year from 2:00pm to 4:0pm to qualify.

  • There will be a MANDITORY Captain’s Meeting on Thursday July 25th @ 7:30 – 9 pm AND/OR July 26 @ 7:30 – 9 pm. 
  • The purpose of the Captain’s Meeting is to review the rules and to provide a basic orientation of the event and answer any questions.
  • All Prizes will be awarded to anglers at the BBQ. The captains meeting is MANDATORY. We need to hand out destintive markers for fish photos.  
  • We will have 2 destintive markers. One for Friday and One for Saturday.

• 1st Place Longest Fluke will go home with a Jackson Cuda, thank you Jakson Kayak, Pat Wollley and Jersey Paddler

• Native Slayer Raffle, to benifit NJ Chapter of Heros on the water and Point Plesant Elks 

• Calcutta Pool for 3 longest fish total length

 


2013 NJ Fluke Kayak Fishing Tournament Rules

1. PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY: Participation is open to anyone 18 Years of age or older. Minors are eligible to register and participate with a parent or guardian who also participates in the event. Minors must have the signature of his or her parent or legal guardian on the entry form as applicable to any state, commonwealth, county, or federal regulations or law. The obligation to know these rules falls upon the parent. A completed entry form and $50 entry fee by Check or PAYPAL must be received no later than July 16, 2013. After July 20, 2013 entry fee is $65. - Entry fees may be transferred to another participant or refunded provided notification is received by the Point Pleasant Elks Tournament Committee prior to the Captains Meeting. Entry fees will not be transferred or refunded after the Captains Meeting.

2. AWARDS- Awards/Cash will be awarded for the following divisions. See section 10 for scoring criteria. Winners will be based on the following pictures on their picures against the a ruler, that are submitted from 2pm - 4 pm on July 27, 2013. Longest Fluke entrries cannot count towards Longest Threee Combined.

Longest Fluke: 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Places

Longest Three Combined Fluke: 1st Place (This is the Calcutta only)

3. CAPTAINS MEETING: All participants are encouraged to attend the Captains Meeting; special considerations may be made in certain circumstances. There will be a Captain’s Meeting on Thursday July 25th @ 7:30 – 9 pm July 25, 2013 and Friday 7:30 – 9 pm July 26, 2013. The purpose of the Captain’s Meeting is to review the rules and to provide a basic orientation of the event and answer any questions. All Prizes will be awarded to anglers at the BBQ.

4. STARTING TIME: Launching can begin at 5:00am. All entrants wishing to enter fish must return their pictures/camera in at tournament headquarters by 4:00. Please note Catch Photo Submission Time EXTENDED - 2:00PM – 4:00PM Saturday July 27, 2013. Don't forget the first picture most be of you from wherever you launch at 5:00am. ALL PICTURES REQUIRE A TIME STAMP AND FIRST PHOTO OF YOU WITH UNQUIE IDENTIFIER, EACH DAY.

5. COMMUNICATIONS: the use of mobile communication is allowed. During the hours of competition, contestants may not obtain or receive assistance, including but not limited to following a non-competitor's boat, the placing of markers by any non-competitor, towed by or riding on motorized vessels or electronic, voice or data communication from a non competitor.

6. SPORTSMANSHIP:all contestants are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy and conservation. Intoxication will be cause for immediate disqualification. No alcoholic beverages or the use of illegal drugs is allowed. This rule extends through and includes signing of the check-in form at tournament headquarters. The illegal use of drugs, participation in any criminal activities, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition and compliance with tournament rules and the law are grounds for disqualification and/or rejection of any applicant from participation. This will also entail the return of any prizes awarded. Tournament directors will seek legal remedy if necessary.

7. PERMITTED FISHING METHODS: All fish must be caught live via hook and line. The selection of baits is up to the discretion of the participant.

8. PROHIBITED: There is absolutely NO FERRYING (i.e. using another vehicle or boat, motorized or not to transport your kayak to a fishing location while on the water.

9. PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS: Please see map below. All participants must use “pubic accessible” launch areas. Using private property will result in disqualification. During the hours of competition, contestants may not obtain or receive assistance, including but not limited to following a non-competitor's boat, the placing of markers by any non-competitor, towed by or riding on motorized vessels or electronic, voice or data communication from a non competitor... - Anglers may leave the boat to stand or to wade while fishing but must be in SIGHT OF THEIR KAYAK. Kayaks are the only mode of on-the-water transport allowed. You can use pedal crafts, sailing kayaks and electric kayaks. No gas powered kayaks, yes there are some!!!!

10. SCORINGCatch and Photo criteria; Winners will be determined by the length of the fish. At the captains meeting each contestant will be issued Unquie Indentifiers.

Unique Identifiers - will be handed out at the capts meeting. Participants are encouraged to use their own cameras if available. Digital is the only method, and a card reader will be used to download pictures.

  • The Unique identifier must be visible in every picture. If there is no identifier, then the picture is disqualified.
  • Score sheets must also be filled out completely and correctly, failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • All photos become property of the Elks Fluke Tournament.
  • The first photo on the roll must be of the angler
  • The second photo will be the rigged boat at put in. Fish must be photographed in or on boat, (vessels should be distinguishable in photo) next to tape measure. The photo must show clearly the length of the fish.
  • Length is determined from the tip of the lower jaw to the natural (un-pinched) tip of the tail. Length should be measured to the nearest quarter inch. Lengths will be verified and scored by the committee.
  • The judging committee makes the call and the tournament director is the final authority on length but will not change the ruling of the judging committee. The tournament Director is not liable for photo processing and condition of cameras.
  • In the event of a tie, the angler who returned their camera first, will be the winner.

11. RELEASE OF LIABILITY:A waiver and release of liability statement is part of the entry form. It is required of each contestant that they take responsibility for themselves while participating in any tournament activities.

12. RULE CHANGES: Rule interpretation will be left exclusively to the tournament directors; decisions of the tournament director are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal.

13. PROTEST: any and all protest must be submitted in writing, 30-minutes before the start time of the captains meeting, or 30-minutes before the official check-in period. All protests will be reviewed by the tournament committee which will be made prior to the captains meeting.
